2014 LEGO Star Wars Set Photos! Wheel Bike, Droid Gunship, V-Wing!

I wasn’t exactly stoked about the Revenge of the Sith-centric LEGO Star Wars 2014 sets lineup that was revealed last week, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t looking forward to seeing photos of the sets in all their glory! And thanks to a UK Catalog, some low-resolution photos of the Winter 2014 LEGO Star Wars sets leaked out and are now available, including the new LEGO Star Wars Vulture Droid, Droid Gunship, V-Wing, General Grievous’ Wheel Bike and more!

UPDATE: Photos have been removed per the request of the LEGO Company. There are plenty of other sites still hosting the images, so I’ll leave my impressions of each set active.

The LEGO Star Wars Battle on Saleucami 75037 is a pretty big letdown in that the set only includes yet another LEGO BARC Speeder along with a bunch of Battle Droid and Super Battle Droid Minifigures and one clone–a BARC Trooper Minifigure. I know people were hoping for Commander Neyo, but, well… that’s apparently not what LEGO is gonna call this guy (although Commander Neyo basically looks exactly like his clone troopers, you can easily say this is a Commander Neyo minifigure if LEGO doesn’t change the name).

The new 2014 LEGO Droid Gunship 75042 looks pretty nice from what we can see of it in the catalog photos, though the Separatist Droid Gunships are always a bit of a tough sell.

It’s very difficult to get excited about a new Anakin Skywalker’s Jedi Interceptor 75038 Starfighter vehicle. I feel like this particular vehicle has just been rehashed over and over and almost perpetually available in some form since 2005. This looks good enough, but I would have much preferred a LEGO Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Starfighter (which badly needs a remake in the regular LEGO Star Wars scale).

Likewise, we’ve had a decent number of LEGO Vulture Droids over the years. This one looks pretty cool and has a very nice color scheme–hopefully the LEGO Star Wars Vulture Droid 75041 has the potential to be the best version yet.

Probably the most disappointing set in these photos is the new LEGO General Grievous’ Wheel Bike 75040 set. When this was announced, collectors had high hopes for a motorized function, a Boga figure or even a lot of Technic pieces. Instead, the set looks rather generic and unimpressive. Maybe the new LEGO Star Wars Wheel Bike will be more striking in better photos, but it’s small and boring in this first photo.

I’m a little surprised to see the new LEGO Star V-Wing Starfighter 75039 released after the black V-Wing from a few years ago flopped hard in stores, but it’s nice to see a proper white LEGO V-Wing Starfighter again. This is going to come with a very cool-looking orange-domed astromech droid minifigure, which makes it an instant purchase as far as I’m concerned.

I’m very surprised by the negative response that the LEGO Star Wars Death Star Troopers 75034 Battle Pack has received. I know some people were hoping for four actual Death Star Trooper Minifigures, but getting two Death Star Gunner Minifigures and two Emperor’s Royal Guards Minifigures is pretty snazzy. Really–how often do we have the chance to army-build Emperor’s Royal Guards?! Not often at all!

The Kashyyyk Troopers 75035 Battle Pack is easily the best of the three 2014 LEGO Star Wars Battle Packs we’ve seen photos of this far (though we’re also supposed to get a LEGO Star Wars Utapau Troopers Battle Pack). Four slick-looking Camo Clone Troopers Minifigures makes this the best army-builder Star Wars LEGO set in ages!

Finally, the new AT-AP. The 2014 LEGO Star Wars AT-AP 75043 didn’t excite me when it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2013, and it still doesn’t now (though I do want that LEGO Commander Gree minifigure). The spring-loaded shooter will be an improvement over the despised flickfire missiles, but I don’t know that folks care too much about that sort of action feature on their LEGO Star Wars vehicles.

I’ll post high-resolution images of all of the LEGO Star Star Wars 2014 sets as soon as they’re available, including the yet-unseen LEGO Star Wars AV-7 Cannon and Coruscant Security Shuttle sets. And you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have future news, photos and updates sent straight to your Facebook Newsfeed!

Thoughts on these upcoming LEGO Star Wars winter sets, LEGO collectors? Are you psyched up for the Episode III-heavy assortment, or are you more anxious for a hopefully Original Trilogy-centered summer 2014 LEGO Star Wars series instead?

2014 LEGO Star Wars Set Photos! Wheel Bike, Droid Gunship, V-Wing! — 2 Comments

  1. That Kashyyyk battle pack I hope to buy at least 5 of. Holy crap. While the mini swamp speeder is questionable, the figures look AWESOME. I cannot wait for that set. I think that all four sets in the second picture need major revamping, but I am looking forward to that droid gunship. But what’s up with the Death Star gunners’ helmets? They look very peculiar to me, and I hope those are just placeholders for the actual helmets. As for the AT-TP, Commander Gree is my favorite clone. Of all time. Enough said.

  2. And what’s up with those new shooting things? I’m fine with the vehicle ones, but the handheld ones? Not so much. I will probably be replacing those…
