If you’ve been trembling with anticipation for the eventual debut of the 2014 LEGO Holiday Promo Set 2 of 2 (like me!), you can cease jittering, LEGO fans! While LEGO almost certainly didn’t mean to let the cat out of the bag just yet, the Polish LEGO Store accidentally shipped out the second LEGO 2014 Holiday Promo set to some customers last week. We’ve had to wait longer than I’d have liked, but at last it can be seen: the 40107 LEGO Ice Skating Exclusive Holiday Promo Set has now been revealed!

When I heard that the second exclusive LEGO 2014 Holiday Promo set had an Ice Skating theme, I definitely had a lot of trepidations about it. I was picturing a rehash of the Ice Skating Rink that came with the (awesome) LEGO Winter Village Bakery 10216 set back in 2010. Thankfully, the 40107 LEGO Holiday Promo set isn’t like that Ice Skating scene. In fact, it’s not really an ice rink at all!

Instead, the set depicts children at play in the snow, with one LEGO minifigure going down an icy hill on a toboggan and another LEGO child minifigure (wearing a hoodie–my favorite!) practicing playing hockey in a little LEGO ice rink! I’ve seen a bit of criticism aimed at this set early on, but I absolutely love it. The LEGO toboggan, the street lamp, the snowballs, the ice skates, the hockey pucks… this set is just totally loaded with fun!

It is slightly weird that LEGO went with brick-built LEGO hockey sticks instead of using the fully-tooled LEGO hockey stick accessory from LEGO Minifigures Series 4, but honestly? I think the brickbuilt LEGO hockey sticks are a whole lot more charming.

And while many folks aren’t clamoring for this set based off the the first image of the box, I imagine many LEGO collectors will warm up to this set a whole lot more once we get to see official photos of the set and all the cool scenes that can be made with it.

The 40107 LEGO Holiday Promo Set 2 (of 2) Ice Skating set will be available online during Brick Friday 2014 weekend (November 28-December 1 2014) with a qualifying purchase of $99 or more. There are always great deals to be found during the Thanksgiving weekend Brick Friday event, so I have no fears about not finding $99 worth of products to buy to earn the LEGO Ice Skating Holiday Promo set. And hey, if you can’t think of anything you want for yourself to qualify for the Holiday Promo set, you can always buy some holiday presents for me, right? Right…?
