LEGO The Hobbit Witch-King Battle 79015 Released & Photos!

Remember that stuff I said yesterday about how I was highly dubious that the three previously-unseen LEGO The Hobbit 2014 winter sets would be released before November 2014…? Yeah–scratch that. As it turns out–and to the shock of LEGO collectors everywhere–all four LEGO The Hobbit 2014 sets have now suddenly been released at various Toys R Us stores in the United States! Now that they’re actually in stores and being sold, we can finally take a look at the likely final wave of LEGO Hobbit sets–starting with the LEGO Witch-King Battle 79015!

2014 LEGO The Hobbit Witch-King Battle 79015 Set Box

Of all the sets being released for the LEGO The Hobbit 2015 wave, my favorite one is actually the smallest and cheapest of the three. No, it’s not because of the buildable elements in this set–the LEGO environment that you can build is pretty minimal at best.

I actually think this set is great because it includes three characters famous for their roles in Lord of the Rings, including one and a half (I’ll explain that in a second) who have never had LEGO minifigures before!

LEGO Galadriel Minifigure from LEGO 79015 Witch-King BattleThe one character in this set that we can say beyond a doubt is a new LEGO minifigure is the first-ever LEGO Galadriel minifigure! While there was a 6″ Galadriel figure released by Toybiz in their Lord of the Rings action figure line about a decade ago, this is her first major toy release since! The beautiful lady of Lothlorien is finally getting her due in LEGO form, and she sure is gorgeous, isn’t she? I mean, except for when…

LEGO 79015 The Witch-King Battle LEGO 2015 The Hobbit Set…she’s in crazy-evil transfixed mode! When Galadriel is tempted by the One Ring, her dark side comes out. Galadriel is one scary lady when she’s evil!

LEGO Witch-King Ringwraith Minifigure from LEGO 79015 Witch King BattleIn addition to the LEGO Galadriel figure, the set also includes a LEGO Elrond minifigure (which is very similar to the previously-released Prologue Elrond LEGO figure) and a LEGO Witch-king Ringwraith minifigure.

We’ve had LEGO Ringwraiths before, of course–but definitely never in the “Twilight Ringwraith” form. Toybiz also made a 6″ Twilight Ringwraith action figure, but I never expected that LEGO would make their own. Way to go, LEGO! The LEGO Witchking minifigure has a glow-in-the-dark head, but beware–apparently it’s a little tough to get his crown back off once you put it on!

LEGO The Witch-King Battle 79015 SetThe diorama portion of this set isn’t much to look at on its own, but will be a welcome complement to the previously-released LEGO Dol Guldur Battle set from last year. The terrain isn’t without features: it splits in half, there’s a rotating platform for the Witch King, and there’s a catapult function for some flames. For what it is, it’s not bad at all!

At 101 pieces for an anticipated retail price of $14.99 in the US, the 79015 LEGO Witch-King Battle set is a pretty terrible price-per-piece value. That said, this is basically a LEGO Lord of the Rings Battle Pack with three unique characters in it, and I honestly don’t mind paying about $5 each for the character that LEGO selected for this set. The mini LEGO environment is just a bonus, in my opinion!

79015 LEGO The Hobbit Witch-King Battle Set Box BackThe LEGO The Hobbit Witch-king Battle 79015 set is scheduled to be officially released in October 2015, but (as you can see), some Toys R Us stores have already received the set and started putting it out on the shelves and selling it. Shuebmabow picked up this set at his local Toys R Us store and was kind enough to give us permission to run the photos of the set he purchased here. Thanks, Shuebmabow!

Are you excited for the LEGO 2015 Witch-King Battle set, LEGO fans? Are you excited for LEGO 79015 because of the minifigures, the buildable diorama–or maybe not at all?
