LEGO Star Wars Imperial Troop Transport 75078 2015 Set!

Let’s face it–not every vehicle in the Star Wars universe is entirely realistic. But there are some Star Wars vehicles that go beyond being a bit far-fetched to being all-out ludicrous. One of these vehicles existed outside of continuity for over 30 years, as it only existed as a Kenner toy: the Imperial Troop Transport. Astonishing everyone, Pablo Hidalgo announced at New York Comic Con 2013 that the Imperial Troop Transport would be entering the official canon as part of Star Wars Rebels. And in 2015, it enters the brick world: it’s the LEGO Star Wars Imperial Troop Transport 75078!

2015 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Troop Transport 75078 Set Box

When it comes to the doofiest vehicles in the Star Wars galaxy, the Imperial Troop Transport has to be near the top of the list. If you didn’t collect the Kenner vintage Star Wars toys and you haven’t watched Star Wars Rebels, you probably have no clue what the Imperial Troop Transport (ITT) is. And if you take your Star Wars really seriously, then that’s probably for the best.

See, the Imperial Troop Transport is basically the Empire’s trolley for Stormtroopers to ride around on from place to place. No, seriously!

LEGO Star Wars 2015 Rebels Imperial Troop Transport 75078 SetWhere things get really weird, though, is that the Imperial Troop Transport transports Stormtroopers from Battlefield A to Battlefield B by sticking them in unshielded little pods on the side of the Transport. Really!

I don’t know about you, but if I was the Empire and was sending Stormtroopers to confront rebels and insurgency, I sure wouldn’t cart my Stormtroopes around on a bus where the Stormtroopers defenselessly hang off the sides of the transport with no shielding on their upper bodies whatsoever. The Empire is just asking for a negligence lawsuit!

LEGO Stormtrooper Minifigure from 2015 LEGO Imperial Troop Transport SetAs silly as the concept and design of the Imperial Troop Transport are, I still expect the 75078 LEGO Imperial Troop Transport set to be one of the best-selling LEGO Star Wars 2015 sets for one big reason: Stormtroopers! Every LEGO 75078 set includes a whopping four Stormtrooper minifigures–plus the Imperial Troop Transport itself–for $12.99! Now there’s a world-class deal for army-builders!

And while the LEGO Troop Transport itself is still rather whimsical, it’s not totally unprotected, what with the dual front cannons, rotating flickfire missile launcher, and the stud-firing blaster that each Stormtrooper figure will include.

75078 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Troop Transport Winter 2015 SetThe 75078 LEGO Star Wars Imperial Troop Transport set is part of the Star Wars 2015 winter sets wave, and should be officially available in stores in January 2015. Minor quantities of the set should hit stores in the last few weeks of 2014, and I’ll be posting updates to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page as soon as the 2015 sets are spotted in stores.

Are you excited to see one of the silliest Imperial vehicles ever entering the official Star Wars canon (and the LEGO Star Wars world), brick fans? Will you be army-building Stormtrooper minifigures with the budget-priced LEGO 75078 set next year?

  1. I was hopping that they would have been the original storm troopers not the Rebels series, but still better than nothing. Now i can actually build my army

  2. i do not like the new blasters – why did they change them?

but the set looks quite nice and now it is possible to create a little army …

  3. you can see the transporter in action for the first time in REBELS “Fighter Flight”

  4. Am I the only one who doesn’t despise the new stormtrooper design? I will probably get a few.

  5. I’m not a huge fan of the vehicle, but it isn’t going to change the fact I can get four Stormtroopers. In addition, the vehicle pieces are generic enough to warrant it being salvaged for either a bigger vehicle or to be used in new designs.
