LEGO Star Wars 2015 TIE Advanced Prototype 75082 Set Preview!

It seems like a dozen or more new LEGO sets are being revealed every day now (because they are!), which is making it tough to keep up with the onslaught of of news. So even though it was revealed a few days ago, now, let’s stop and take a look at another one of the LEGO Star Wars 2015 sets coming our way in January. The 2015 LEGO Star Wars TIE Advanced Prototype 75082 is obviously pretty reminiscent of Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, but not only does it has some unique design elements that actually make me like this prototype more than the final version, it has the first-ever LEGO Inquisitor Minifigure!

75082 TIE Advanced Prototype Box

Having been a huge fan of the Star Wars Coruscant Knights novels, I was pretty psyched when I heard that the main villain in the new Star Wars Rebels cartoon series was going to be an Inquisitor. As it turns out, this Inquisitor is quite a bit different from the ones in the now-defunct Star Wars Expanded Universe, but he serves the same basic function: to wipe out any Jedi remaining after Order 66. That’s good enough for me, and a good enough reason for me to be an Inquisitor fan and need this LEGO 75082 TIE Advanced Prototype set!

The LEGO Rebels TIE Advanced Prototype set contains 355 pieces and three minifigures, and will retail for $39.99. That’s not the best price ever–about 11 cents per brick–but it’s a far better value than some LEGO Star Wars sets we’ve seen in the past. This will be the first LEGO TIE Fighter set to feature spring-loaded missiles, and also has a nifty folding wing design that will let this set sit far more stably than its predecessors (or ancestors, depending on your point of view).

The main attraction of this set is, of course, the debut figure of the LEGO Inquisitor. The Inquisitor will come with a removable helmet (no images have been revealed yet of him not wearing it, unfortunately), as well as his unique double-bladed lightsaber. I love the design of the Inquisitor’s lightsaber, and it looks great on his LEGO figure!

In addition to the first LEGO Inquisitor minifigure, the 75082 LEGO Star Wars TIE Advanced Prototype set will include two other minifigures: a generic LEGO TIE Pilot minifigure and a redesigned LEGO Imperial Officer minifigure. We’ve had plenty of Imperial Officer LEGO figures over the years, but this is the very first one in a tan outfit! I’m not sure if I really like the tan, but depending on how frequently it appears in Star Wars Rebels episodes, maybe it will grow on me.

LEGO Star Wars Rebels TIE Advanced Prototype 75082 SetThe LEGO Star Wars Rebels TIE Advanced Prototype 75082 set is scheduled to be released in January 2015, with small quantities of the set likely to leak into some stores in time for the holidays. With the Star Wars Rebels cartoon series airing regularly on Disney XD by then, I imagine that this set will be in quite a bit of demand for Christmas presents for kids! If you’re hoping to score one of the LEGO 75082 TIE Advanced Prototype sets before the holidays, be sure to follow Bricks and Bloks on Facebook, where I regularly post when and where new sets appear early.

How do you like the Rebels version of the TIE Advanced Prototype LEGO vehicle, LEGO fans? Does the inclusion of the LEGO Inquisitor minifigure make this set a must-buy for you, or are you content with the LEGO Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter vehicles that have been released in the past?

  1. Ancestors and predecessors essentially mean the same thing, they both come before. I think the word you were looking for was descendants or successors 🙂

Great review though, and good set too, I do like the new hinge dishes (they’re not really domes are they, a bit too shallow to be domes, would look nice as pipe covers on larger sets!)

  2. An excellent set and I predict that people will try and go for multiple orders (two or four is reasonable). In addition, the officer would warrant it’s own Ebay listing since collectors would either see it as a support staff or a line officer. Definitely worth getting.
