LEGO Jurassic World Dilophosaurus Ambush 75916 Photos!

After all of the LEGO Simpsons hysteria yesterday and checking out all the new human minifigures and the convenient store that they can hang out in, let’s switch gears today and talk about a set with a dinosaur that would like to eat all those LEGO Simpsons minifigures in the Kwik-E-Mart! Coming this May and starring one of the most recognizable Jurassic Park dinosaurs–it’s the LEGO Jurassic World Dilophosaurus Ambush 75916 set!

Dinosaurs are the great love of my wife’s life (I like to think I’m second), so I always concede to her knowledge of dinosaurs. And according to her, the depiction of the Dilophosaurus in the original Jurassic Park movie was largely made-up: there’s apparently no evidence that Dilophosaurus had a huge neck frill, was only three to five feet long, or could spit deadly venom.

All that said, I love me some venom-spitting, fat dude-killing little dinosaurs, making the version of Dilophosaurus seen in Jurassic Park one of my favorite (and among the most memorable) dinos in the movie!

LEGO Dilophosaurus Dinosaur Figure with Mouth OpenSo when I saw the 75916 LEGO Dilophosaurus Ambush set on display at New York Toy Fair 2015 last month, I was very psyched to see one of my favorite dinosaurs captured for the first time in LEGO form!

LEGO Jurassic Park Dinosaurs Figures DilophosaurusAnd rather than giving us just any boring old paint scheme for the LEGO Dilophosaurus toy, we’re getting a wild-and-crazy bright green Dilophosaurus figure! I love the vivid, eye-searing colors on this dinosaur, which easily make it one of my favorite LEGO Jurassic World dinosaurs.

75916 LEGO Dilophosaurus Ambush Jurassic World SetThe Dilophosaurus LEGO dinosaur figure will have an impressive seven points of articulation: tail, arms, legs, neck and hinged jaw. I’m really looking forward to picking up this dinosaur in under two months!

LEGO Jurassic World Gray Minifigure in Bubble with Dilophosaurus 75916Besides the exclusive dinosaur, there’s two other exclusive Jurassic World LEGO minifigures in this set: Gray and a unique ACU (Asset Containment Unit). I always have a soft spot for the young kids in Jurassic Park movies, so I’m glad to get the LEGO Gray minifigure in this set. And as for the ACU minifigure, well–he can be fodder for the Dilophosaurus. Ha!

Of course, this set is more than just a dinosaur figure and two minifigures. There’s also a clear bubble vehicle for Gray to ride around in (for up-close, but “safe” dinosaur viewing–heh heh), as well as a Jurassic World jeep vehicle!

75916 LEGO Jurassic Park Jeep from Dilophosaurus Ambush Set

Now, this Jurassic World jeep with its blue and white color scheme isn’t really a match for the iconic jeeps in the original Jurassic Park movie, but it definitely has the same style and feel as that jeep. And honestly, I kind of prefer the new color scheme from Jurassic World to the classic colors of the jeep anyway! Though it’s a bit small, this is my most “must-have” vehicle from the LEGO Jurassic World theme.

The only real negative to this set is that it’s another below-average value as far as cost-per-piece goes. At $29.99 for 248 pieces, you’re paying over 12 cents per piece. That ends up making the set cost an additional $5 over what sounds like a good value for it. I love the Dilophosaurus figure enough that I’m willing to look past the set being a few dollars overpriced, but your mileage (and dollars) may vary.

New York Toy Fair 2015 LEGO Dilophosaurus Ambush Set DisplayThe LEGO 75916 Dilophosaurus Ambush set is part of the 2015 LEGO Jurassic World sets wave due out by May 2015. Don’t be surprised at all if these sets appear next month, though! I’ll be on the hunt for them early for sure!

What do you think of the 75916 LEGO Jurassic World Dilophosaurus Ambush set, LEGO fans? Does this set win you over with its classic dinosaur and near-iconic Jurassic World jeep, or will you be keeping your $30 for something else this summer?

  1. The venom, while made up, was made up for the original JP novel. The frill that unfold was, I believe, added for the movie. Little touches like that are fun though. We don’t even know what color the dinosaurs were really. Some may even have been covered in feathers and we wouldn’t know about it from their bones.

    • You seriously suck, I don’t give a **** who made this but they probably live with there mum and they are 30. Man just go get a house and kids. Your waste
Ing your time. I was trying to find out what Lego set to give to my son Erik when I came across your website. Get a life man, nobody wants to know what you have to say about the sets. The whole point of Lego is so that you buy the sets and then break them and bud something. You should quit this job. 1 comment is like having nobody look at your website. Lego is just a toy anyway. Do me a favor, try to find a job and let your parents breathe. Go for a business man, you’ll get paid well.

      Yours, Jhon

      • It’s difficult to take you seriously when you can’t even spell your own name correctly, “Jhon”.

I’m not sure exactly what it is that you dislike so heartily about this site, though. I’ve never considered running Bricks And Bloks to be a “job”–it’s something that I do out of love, and as a service to the 6,700+ Facebook Followers that this site has and the four million-plus LEGO collector visitors this site gets each year. I love building and collecting LEGO sets and I love to talk about them. If this offends you, my sincerest apologies.

And while I haven’t lived at home for over a decade, I’ll be sure to send your love along to my mum. Thanks for your thoughtfulness!

P.S. Good guess, but I actually turned 29 again last year for the fourth time.
