LEGO Star Wars Snowspeeder 2014 Toy Fair Photos Preview!

I was about to move on and start discussing some of the non-Star Wars LEGO sets that were revealed at last week’s New York Toy Fair 2014, but I realized I would be remiss if I started discussing other themes before talking about this summer’s complementary set to the awesome new LEGO AT-AT. We’ve had a whole fleet of them before, but in Summer 2014 we’re getting an all-new LEGO Star Wars Snowspeeder 75049 set!

This is going to sound totally nuts, but the LEGO 75049 Snowspeeder set is actually the tenth LEGO Snowspeeder ever released. Yes, if you combine all the various sizes and iterations of the Rebel Snowspeeder, we are now on the tenth Snowspeeder in LEGO form. Crazy, right?

Anyway, this new LEGO Star Wars 2014 Snowspeeder looks as though it’s going to be a big upgrade over the previously-released LEGO Snowspeeders. It’s a bit larger than the Rebel Snowspeeders that we usually get, and features the new spring-loaded missile shooters (which are thankfully concealed under the wings). As this is specifically Luke Skywalker’s Snow Speeder, it authentically forgoes the large amounts of orange that we’re used to seeing on other Rebel Snowspeeders.

New York Toy Fair 2014 LEGO Star Wars Dak Ralter and Snowtrooper MinifiguresThe 75049 Snowspeeder LEGO set includes three minifigures: a Snowspeeder Pilot Luke Skywalker minifigure, a LEGO Snowtrooper minifigure and a LEGO Dak Ralter minifigure. You might be surprised to hear that, while he’s a relatively minor character, this is going to be the sixth (yes, sixth) time that LEGO releases a LEGO Dak figure! I guess being Luke Skywalker’s gunner has its advantages (I mean, besides getting killed instantly)!

Toy Fair 2014 LEGO Star Wars Snowspeeder 75049 with Dak Ralter MinifigureThe Imperial Snowtrooper won’t be totally mismatched going against the Rebel Snowspeeder, as this set will also include a LEGO Tripod Laser Cannon to give the Snowtrooper a sporting chance!

The 2014 LEGO Star Wars Snowspeeder 75049 will be released in August 2014. The set will contain 279 pieces for $29.99, which is slightly less than 11 cents per piece. A little more than my ideal value, but it’s good enough that I’m willing to let it slide in this case.

LEGO Star Wars 75049 Snowspeeder Box Toy Fair 2014How do you like this year’s upgraded version of the LEGO Snowspeeder, LEGO fans? Do you have a spot in your collection for (yet another) Rebel Snowspeeder, or has LEGO already maxed out the amount of space that you can devote to a Snowspeeder fleet?

  1. I have the last snowspeeder that was released.
This looks nice…and bigger…but not spectacular. I shall wait to see it in person at my local lego store. bc from pics alone…..it looks standard issue. I was hoping for x-wing or y-wing like attention to detail.
    sigh.

  2. Why do the cockpits on all of the Lego snowspeeders look like crap? Lego needs to just create a special piece for it. Come on, how many more incarnations of this craft will we have to see before Lego releases one that actually resembles the real thing?
