Last month we got our first peek at the LEGO 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles T-Sub Undersea Chase set via a low-quality retail catalog scan of the set. This month, we’ve moved up in the world, as the official box art for the 2014 LEGO TMNT Turtle Sub Undersea Chase 79121 has now appeared! While I was a bit indifferent to the Turtle Sub based off the initial look at it, with the hi-res image of it, I am now totally sold on this being the best of the LEGO 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated sets…

You only get one chance to make a good first impression, but luckily, your second impression can still be a lasting one! The first catalog photos of the Ninja Turtles’ Turtle Sub LEGO set were less than flattering, but the hi-res image of the set’s box puts things right by showing how outstanding this set really is.

The TMNT LEGO Turtle Sub is actually designed to look like a mechanical sea turtle, and is one of the most adorable LEGO vehicles I’ve ever seen! This is some exceptional design work–good job, LEGO!

Although the minifigures of the two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Leonardo and Donatello) and the pair of Kraang that come with the set look pretty mundane, I’m very pleased with the look and quality of the LEGO Leatherhead BigFig. With LEGO Big Figs like Leatherhead, MODOK and Groot, 2014 truly is the year of the LEGO Big Minifigures!

The 79121 LEGO Turtle Sub Undersea Chase set is expected to be released in late Winter/early spring 2014. Originally it was rumored this set would cost $45.99, but with the obvious size of the set and the fact that it includes 684 pieces, I think $60-$70 is a more likely price-point.
