2016 LEGO Star Wars Resistance Troop Transporter Photos!

Yesterday I talked about one of the major LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens winter 2016 sets that that’s due out in stores in the next 1-2 months, the Battle on Takodana set with Unmasked Kylo Ren minifigure. But as a great being once said: “There is another.” And oddly enough, the “another” that Yoda was talking about is actually part of the “another” that I’m talking about: the LEGO Star Wars Resistance Troop Transport 75140 set–with old Princess Leia minifigure–has now been revealed!

2016 LEGO Star Wars Resistance Troop Transport Box

Not only is LEGO the top toy company in the world, but they are literally beating every toy manufacturer to the punch with their Star Wars The Force Awakens character releases!

TLG was the very first company anywhere to release an old Han Solo figure (along with this fall’s new Episode VII Millennium Falcon set)–the only elderly Han Solo figure available this year from any company–and now they’re going to be the very first company to release figures of old Princess Leia Organa and Admiral Ackbar! Way to go, LEGO!

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Princess Leia Admiral Ackbar MinifiguresI think that Leia is perhaps going a bit color-blind in her old age, as that’s the only way I can explain the questionable fashion statement she’s making with this purple and green ensemble she’s put together. Ha. Meanwhile, Admiral Ackbar is looking pretty slick in his old age, and I think his costume is a fitting update to his military uniform from “Return of the Jedi”.

Two Resistance Soldier minifigures are also included with the set (which makes sense, seeing as how this set is a “troop” transport and not a “military leader transport”).

Toy Fair 2014 LEGO Star Wars 75050 B-Wing Box

Comparing this Troop Transporter set with the 2013 B-Wing 75050 set above, we can see that the Resistance Troop Transporter itself is obviously an evolution of the Original Trilogy B-Wing design, although it definitely doesn’t look like the wings will unfold or the cockpit on this 13″ long ship is going to be able to rotate in the manner that the classic B-Wing’s did (at least, not unless TLG is very cleverly hiding that feature in these photos).

The LEGO 75140 Resistance Troop Transporter set will retail for £59.99 overseas, and will likely be around $59.99 in the United States as well. Assuming that those prices don’t change–and it’s quasi-possible they may once TLG actually announces this set officially–then that’s a very strong value for a licensed set containing 646 pieces–about 9.2 cents per piece! That may be a good move, though, as Troop Transporter sets don’t exactly scream “excitement!”, and may struggle at retail with a higher price.

75140 LEGO Star Wars Force Awakens Resistance Troop Transport SetThe LEGO Star Wars 2016 Resistance Troop Transporter set will be available online and at retail stores this winter, with no exact release date yet specified. I would assume that this set is scheduled for a January 1st, 2016 release, but it’s possible it might not be intended until February 2016. I’ll post updates here and to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page (which you should totally follow) once this set turns up in stores, so stay tuned if old Leia and Ackbar are on your wish list for this winter.

What are your thoughts on the 75140 Resistance Troop Transport set, Star Wars fans? Will you be picking up this set just for the exclusive Force Awakens Princess Leia minifigure? Are you in in love with the B-Wing-like design for the Troop Transporter ship itself? Or are you planning to pass on this Episode VII set altogether?
