LEGO Star Wars 2016 Hoth Attack 75138 Set Photos Preview!

The blizzard of LEGO 2016 Star Wars sets contains a trio of sets from the Original Trilogy, and having already discussed the Carbon-Freezing Chamber and Droid Escape Pod, that leaves one last snowflake left to talk about. We’ve had no shortage of brick-built Battle of Hoth sets over the years, and this winter we can add one more: the LEGO Star Wars Hoth Attack 75138!

I’m not gonna lie: I’m getting a little frustrated with TLG’s continuous remakes of sets from the Battle of Hoth. As glorious as that battle is (and it is pretty glorious), you would think that nothing else happened in the Empire Strikes Back!

In mid-2016, a LEGO Hoth Echo Base UCS set will be released that I hope will be the last major Hoth set we’ll see released for a good, long time. But before that mega-set arrives, TLG has prepared a little appetizer for us in the form of the 75138 Hoth Attack set!

LEGO Hoth Attack 75138 feels really similar to previous sets released in this size and price-range, and I swear we’ve even seen this exact trio of characters released with an earlier set within the last three or four years. Even so, if you’re just getting into Star Wars in the past year or two, everything in this set is an iconic and worthwhile for your collection!

LEGO Star Wars 2016 Hoth Attack 75138 SetThe three minifigures included with this set are a (Brown Coat) Hoth Han Solo minifigure, an Imperial Snowtrooper minifigure and a Hoth Rebel Soldier minifigure. I think TLG could have gotten at least a little bit creative and put a snowy Chewbacca or Hoth Princess Leia figure in here, as this assortment is a straight-up retread. Oh well!

Hoth Attack also features a missile-firing Rebel Ion Cannon (with a huge sticker wrapped around it), a small Snowtrooper tripod cannon and a brick-built Imperial Probe Droid. I always love the Probot, but it does look a mite peculiar to me this time out. I think it’s the weird red eye that’s really throwing me.

Overall, I think this is a nice set for beginning Star Wars collectors, but not one that will have a lot of appeal for those who have been collecting for years–there’s just not anything that feels fresh or exciting here at all to make longtime collectors get their wallets out. Hopefully the UCS Hoth Echo Base set coming our way in spring 2016 is far more compelling.

75138 Hoth Attack LEGO Star Wars 2016 SetThe LEGO Star Wars 2016 sets are scheduled to be released online and in stores on January 1st 2016, and I’ll post an update here and to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page once the wave is actually spotted at retail and/or online. The exact pricing and piece count for this set has not been confirmed yet, but I’ll update once those release specifics are revealed.

Are you interested in this latest LEGO Battle of Hoth set, or are you all Hoth-ed out at this point? And what sort of minifigures/features are you hoping will be included with the $200+ UCS Echo Base that’s going to be revealed a few months from now?
