LEGO Deep Sea Explorers Summer 2015 Sets Photos Preview!

If ever there was a theme created that perfectly aligned with my environmental preferences, it’s last year’s LEGO Arctic sets. LEGO Polar Bears and white-and-orange, snow-themed LEGO Arctic vehicles? Sign me up. Aquatic, underwater exploration theme…? Not so much. I sink like a brick in water and have a total hatred for underwater media due to all of the ridiculously hard aquatic levels in video games. Me and deep sea stuff–we don’t get along. That said, I imagine there are plenty of fans who are going to be absolutely delighted by the Summer 2015 LEGO Deep Sea Explorers sets, which have now been fully revealed!

One of the biggest LEGO sub-themes of 2015 is the all-new LEGO City Deep Sea Explorers theme! At the Nuremberg Toy Fair 2015 last week, LEGO revealed five of the sets in this new LEGO City sub-theme. If you look at the numbering, however, it’s pretty obvious that there will be at least one more set released in the theme as a retailer exclusive: LEGO 60094 (whatever it ends up being).

I would also bet on anywhere from one to three different LEGO Deep Sea Explorers polybag sets being released as promos or at least being sold in-store at Target and Toys R Us stores.

60095 Deep Sea Exploration Vessel LEGO City Summer 2015 SetsThe largest of the five known LEGO City Deep Sea Explorers sets (and almost certainly the largest of the sets that will be released overall) is the LEGO Deep Sea Exploration Vessel 60095 set. This set includes a large boat that lower an underwater exploration cage down into the “water” to explore a sunken ship!

This feature works terrific in the elaborate diorama that LEGO set up at the 2015 Nuremberg Toy Fair, but obviously it’s going to be a bit hard for most of us to recreate in our own homes (seeing as how we’d have to fly the ship into the air to lower the cage and all). Cool idea, though.

LEGO 60095 Deep Sea Exploration Vessel Set Sunken ShipThe 60095 LEGO Deep Sea Exploration Vessel is the only set in this wave that will include all three types of sharks: regular sharks, LEGO White Sharks and (what my wife tells me are) LEGO Sawsharks! Now, they look like big swordfish to me, but my wife has a degree in wildlife biology, so I’ll take her word for it.

LEGO Summer 2015 Deep Sea Exploration Vessel 60095 Sunken ShipThe sunken ship portion of this set isn’t overly intricate, but makes for a neat scene nonetheless. Since this theme is all about undersea exploration, I wouldn’t mind at all if LEGO also did a full-on sunken ship set with a larger and more detailed sunken ship for the explorers to survey.

LEGO 60090 Deep Sea Scuba Scooter Set at Nuremberg Toy Fair 2015And from the largest of the Deep Sea Explorer LEGO sets, let’s jump to the smallest! The 60090 Deep Sea Scuba Scooter set is the low-priced “impulse buy” set of this wave. This set is cute, and should see strong sales since it’s the cheapest one in the sub-theme. That said, most kids (and adults) are going to prefer sharks to squids, so they’ll likely prefer…

60091 Deep Sea Starter Set LEGO City 2015The LEGO 60091 Deep Sea Starter set is the lowest-priced one of the Deep Sea Explorers sets to include a shark, which should guarantee that it does well sales-wise. With a shark, a mini deep sea vehicle, two LEGO scuba divers and a deep sea explorer minifigure included, this set is basically the “battle pack” of the wave.

LEGO City Summer 2015 Deep Sea Submarine 60092 BoxLEGO Deep Sea Explorers Submarine 60092 Set

LEGO 60092 Deep Sea Submarine Set June 2015But for those willing to shell out for a set that’s a bit more expensive, you can also get the divers and the shark with the LEGO Deep Sea Submarine 60092! This set includes a cool skeleton for the scuba divers to check out, as well as a sizable LEGO submarine. This set will be in the middle as far as pricing goes.

LEGO Deep Sea Helicopter 60093 Box60093 Deep Sea Helicopter Set (LEGO Deep Sea Explorers Sets)

Finally, we’ve got the LEGO Deep Sea Helicopter 60093! Wait, isn’t “Deep Sea Helicopter” some sort of oxymoron…? Maybe “Open Ocean Helicopter” would have been better. Oh well!

This Chinook helicopter looks pretty nifty, even if I don’t like the colors of it nearly as much as the LEGO Arctic Helicrane 60034 that we got last year. It includes a regular shark (sorry, the white shark and saw shark are only with the super-expensive LEGO 60095 set), a mini submarine and a couple of minifigures.

60093 Deep Sea Helicopter LEGO Summer 2015 SetThe LEGO City Summer 2015 Deep Sea Explorer sets are expected to be released in June/July 2015. All five of these sets should be mass-release sets, with any exclusive(s) and polybag sets being revealed right before their actual release in stores. I’ll post updates with more photos and videos of these sets from the New York Toy Fair 2015 next week, and you can ‘Like’ Bricks and Bloks on Facebook to have news and photos beamed right to your Facebook Newsfeed!

What do you think of the new LEGO Deep Sea Explorers sets, LEGO fans? Will any or all of these sets be making their way onto your LEGO Summer 2015 shopping lists, or is this theme not innovative enough to get you pumped up to do some mock underwater exploration?
