Earlier I talked about the upcoming LEGO Iron Man vs. The Mandarin: The Ultimate Showdown set, and while I wasn’t crazy about that set, this next LEGO Iron Man 3 set is more to my liking: the LEGO Iron Man Extremis Sea Port Battle 76006. The LEGO Iron Man Extremis Sea Port Battle is anchored by the three minifigures that it includes: Iron Man in his Mark XLII armor, War Machine, and Aldrich Killian. The LEGO War Machine minifigure in this set is particularly worthy of note, as War Machine didn’t appear in the Avengers movie and thus has never been made as a LEGO minifigure before. I love the little red “flaming” propulsion studs that attach to War Machine’s feet and hands (Iron Man has blue studs for the same reason).

The Aldrich Killian minifigure is a little bit more obscure. In the Marvel Comics comic book universe, Dr. Aldrich Killian is a scientist who co-develops the Extremis technology that Tony Stark utilizes in his upgraded Iron Man armor. In the comics Killian sells samples of Extremis to terrorists and then commits suicide, but I imagine the latter won’t happen in the Iron Man 3 movie (as LEGO would obviously not be making a Dr. Aldrich Killiam minifigure if it did).

Along with the trio of minifigures in this set, buyers will also get a speedboat and a buoy with the set. The boat looks cool enough, but isn’t anything really extraordinary–I don’t really mind having it, but I’ll be purchasing this set for the War Machine figure and not the LEGO speedboat. This set actually reminds me a lot of the LEGO Indiana Jones Set Venice Canal Chase 7197 set, but smaller and with a lot less coolness.

LEGO collectors won’t have long to wait for this LEGO Iron Man 3 2013 set–it’s expected to be released in stores on or about March 15th with a retail price of $19.99.
