LEGO Lord of the Rings Summer 2013 Sets: Pirate Ship & Black Gate!

With the American Internation Toyfair looming on the horizon and set to begin this weekend, it’s almost time for LEGO to fully reveal the glory of their Summer 2013 plans! While we wait, we can check out some of the leaked photos floating around the internet that give us details about the LEGO Lord of the Rings Summer 2013 wave, including long-awaited sets like the LEGO LOTR Battle at the Black Gate and Pirate Ship Ambush!

LEGO Lord of the Rings 2013 Minifigures Lineup and Pirate Ship AmbushFrom information that’s been leaked, we know of four 2013 LEGO Lord of the Rings sets coming in the summer…

LEGO Lord of the Rings Battle at the Black Gate 79007

From the climactic battle of the great war of Middle Earth, it’s the LEGO 79007 Battle at the Black Gate! This set is interesting in that it gives us a The Mouth of Sauron minifigure, a character that only appeared in the Return of the King Extended Edition. The Black Gate (obviously) can open and close, and we’ll also be getting a LEGO Great Eagle in this set, along with The Mouth of Sauron’s black horse.

This set includes a Pirate of Umbar minifigure based on LOTR director Peter Jackson’s appearance in Return of the King. So essentially, this set includes a LEGO Peter Jackson minifigure. That right there makes it a must-have for me! But if that’s not enough for you, the set will also debut the King of the Dead minifigure and two Soldier of the Dead minifigures! While these figures will be painted green instead of being made of clear transparent plastic, I still can’t wait to begin army-building my LEGO Army of the Dead. Bring on the Oliphaunts, please!

This is a cute little “battle pack” depicting the battle between Gandalf and Saruman. This is the first place that a Saruman minifigure will be available, and as this set doesn’t have a whole lot to it (besides the debut of the LEGO palantir), the Saruman figure is going to be the major selling point of LEGO 79005 The Wizard Battle.

This might be the set that I’m looking forward to the most from the 2013 LEGO Lord of the Rings theme. I’m a huge fan of Rivendell as it appears in the Lord of the Rings movies, so I’m psyched to finally own an official piece of it for my LEGO LOTR figures to hang out in. This set will include an exclusive Arwen Evenstar figure, and is the first set to include an Elrond minifigure (Elrond was previously only available with pre-orders of the LEGO Lord of the Rings video game).

Remember that all of these photos are of preliminary images, and the final sets will (hopefully) look much better. I’ll post better photos once the sets are revealed in full at the American International Toyfair this weekend. Look for the four 2013 Lord of the Rings LEGO sets shown here to hit stores around June 2013.
