All this week I’ve been discussing the three 2014 TMNT Movie LEGO Ninja Turtles set–and as it turns out, I’ve saved the best for last! It’s the largest and most expensive LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set ever (including the animated sets too), and if you want to complete your lineup of the four movie Ninja Turtles LEGO minifigures, you’ll have to buy this set to get Donatello! Coming in Summer 2014–it’s the LEGO Ninja Turtles Movie Turtle Lair Invasion 79117 set!

When I heard that LEGO was planning a $100 TMNT Lair playset for this summer, I was both nervous and extremely excited. My original TMNT Sewer Lair playset was one of my favorite toys I owned as a kid, so I’ve been secretly dreaming of a massive LEGO Ninja Turtles Lair set ever since LEGO announce the LEGO TMNT theme at New York Comic-Con 2012.

After the underwhelming LEGO Turtle Lair Attack 79103 set was released last year I was afraid to get my hopes up again, but the 2014 LEGO Turtle Lair Invasion 79117 set looks to be bigger, better, and way more fun than its predecessor!

Among the features of the LEGO TMNT Summer 2014 Turtle Lair set are a lowering gate, a really cool two-story slide for the TMNT minifigures to ride on, a huge rotating fan-blade, a computer technology lab for Donatello to work his magic in, a weapons rack armory for the Turtles to equip themselves for battle and more!

In the case of a major scene like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ sewer lair, size definitely does matter, and larger is absolutely better. This LEGO Ninja Turtles movie playset absolutely blows away the other attempts that LEGO has made at “playsets” in the LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme thus far.

If you’ve been paying careful attention during my coverage of the LEGO 79115 and LEGO 79116 previews, you may have noticed that only three of the four LEGO TMNT minifigures are represented in those sets. Fear not, though–a movie LEGO Donatello minifigure, the most unpopular of the four Ninja Turtles will make his fateful appearance as part of the 79117 LEGO Turtle Lair Invasion!

In addition to the exclusive movie Donatello LEGO minifigure, the LEGO 2014 Turtle Lair Invasion set will also be the exclusive place that you can get movie LEGO Splinter and Shredder minifigures! So if you want to complete your movie roster of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and have their master and their arch-enemy, you’re going to have to buy the mega LEGO TMNT Movie Turtle Lair Invasion set to do so.

The set will also include another LEGO Leonardo movie minifigure, as well as a pair of LEGO Foot Soldier minifigures and a motorcycle for the Foot Soldier minifigs to drive around on. No mere motorcycle can make a generic Foot Soldier a match for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but at least having a vehicular advantage can make things just a teensy bit more fair for the poor, ill-fated LEGO Foot Soldiers!

LEGO 79117 will contain 888 pieces at a price-point of $99.99, so it’ll be a tad expensive at 11 cents pier piece–but when you take into account the six minifigures and loads of action features, I think this set is well worth its $100 price-point!

The Summer 2014 Ninja Turtles LEGO Turtle Lair Invasion set will be released at an unspecified point in summer 2014.
