LEGO Star Wars Episode VII Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle!

Ordinarily, when a Star Wars set with a retail price tag of $119.99 is released it’s going to be the most expensive set available in that wave. But 2015 is no ordinary year for Star Wars (you may have heard about this new movie coming out in the winter), and what would usually be the biggest of the LEGO Star Wars Summer 2015 sets ends up coming in second place! With three days to go until Force Friday, today the spotlight falls on the third set left to be previewed: LEGO Star Wars Episode VII Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle 75104!

LEGO Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle Box

The very first image of a Star Wars The Force Awakens LEGO set that leaked out was of the box for this very set: Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle 75104. At the time, I thought the set looked a little, well… dull. Now that we can see the hi-res images of the set, along with its minifigure selection and list of features, well… for the size and price, I still think that it’s a bit drab.

Kylo Ren’s Shuttle is going to be a big investment space-wise: the ship measures 11″ high (15″ high with wings fully-extended!) by 8″ long by 7″ wide. I’m curious to see how the “amazing” extendable wing function works, as it’s highly-promoted in the ads for this set. The other features for this set are all pretty mundane: an opening front, spring-loaded missile shooters, rear and bottom storage bays and detachable weapon racks. All are worthwhile features, but also not exactly things that fans tend to get super psyched-up about.

LEGO Star Wars Force Awakens Kylo Ren's Command Shuttle 75104 SetLEGO 75104 contains 1,005 pieces for a price-tag of $119.99. At a price-point of about 12 cents per piece, that’s really not a terrific value. While there are a few larger pieces included (for the wings), all of the colors here are pretty generic grey and nothing to get overly excited about. Combining the high cost with a model that isn’t terribly visually-compelling to begin with, I plan on skipping this set on Force Friday and waiting until it (hopefully) goes on sale for $20-$30 off in a few months.

75104 LEGO Star Wars Episode VII Minifigures Kylo Ren

You get six minifigures with the LEGO Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle set, with three of the six minifigures being unique to this set (at least, for now). Included are: LEGO Kylo Ren minifigure (unique), General Hux minifigure (unique), two First Order Crew minifigs, a First Order Officer minifigure and a First Order Stormtrooper Officer minifigure (unique).

While General Hux could potentially gain some popularity based upon his character’s prominence in The Force Awakens (although I somehow doubt it), the big headliner here meant to sell folks this $120 set is definitely the Kylo Ren figure. He comes with a cape, removable hood, and signature cross-like lightsaber. I can’t imagine that Kylo Ren won’t be available in cheaper sets down the road, but collectors who want him this year are gonna have to fork out $120 this fall.

Kylo Ren's Attack Shuttle LEGO Star Wars The Force Awakens SetThe LEGO Star Wars Force Awakens sets will be available for order online and in stores this Friday (9/4/2015). It’ll be very intrigued to see how well Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle sells in the months leading up to Star Wars Episode VII arriving in theaters. Kylo Ren has more buzz and mystique surrounding him than any other character in the new movie, but this is also a large, expensive, and a little bit boring-looking of a set. Will the exclusive Kylo Ren minifigure drive it to be a hot seller despite all that? We’ll find out soon!

What are your feelings on 75104 Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle, Star Wars fans? Are you impressed with the ship itself, or is it only the minifigures in this set that have your attention? Are you planning to pick up this set during the lead-up to Episode 7, or are you taking a wait-and-see attitude with this pricey spaceship?
