LEGO Star Wars Episode VII Poe’s X-Wing Starfighter 75102!

I suspect I’m going to lose my Star Wars Fanboy card for saying this, but I’m just gonna say it: I’ve never particularly liked X-Wings. Blasphemy, right? Oh, I’ve owned plenty of X-Wings, but the drab colors have never captured my heart. But that’s all set to change with Star Wars The Force Awakens, which brings us the new Halloween-colored LEGO Poe’s X-Wing Starfighter 75102 set!

75102 Poe's X-Wing Starfighter LEGO Set

With Force Friday being just seven days away–and there being six new LEGO Star Wars Episode VII sets launching on that day–I figured that I’d waited long enough to begin giving my thoughts on the new sets. TLG uploaded images of the Fall 2015 catalog online showing off all of the new sets themselves, so as far as I can tell, they must want us knowing about and talking about them in the buildup to Force Friday. Anyway…

LEGO Poe Dameron’s X-Wing Starfighter will measure 4″ high, 14″ long and 12″ wide. The starship will feature “spring-loaded shooters, stud shooters, restractable landing gear, opening wings, loader, access ladder and more”. In other words: everything you would expect a LEGO X-Wing set to feature is present and accounted for!

The catalog states that collectors can “play out exciting snow-planet battles against the 75100 First Order Snowspeeder”. Personally, I don’t like the chances of any Snowspeeder trying to combat a starship that’s capable of space flight, but these First Order Snowtroopers must be the brave, valiant type!

LEGO Force Awakens Minifigures BB-8 Poe Dameron X-Wing PilotThe Episode VII X-Wing Starfighter includes four minifigures, with three of the four characters being unique to this set. The Poe Dalmeron minifigure is the big prize here, as he seems poised to be one of the three main protagonists in the new Star Wars films, and won’t be available elsewhere (yet).

Along with the first Poe figure, a generic X-Wing Pilot Minifig and a Resistance Ground Crew Minifig are included. I’m not sure why we’d need another X-Wing Pilot with this set, but I suppose he’s there for those who want to army-build slick black X-Wings and not have them all flown by the same main character?

A LEGO BB-8 minifigure (of a sort) rounds out the set. BB-8 is also available with the Force Awakens Milennium Falcon, but not everyone is going to be able to afford (or want to afford) another $120+ Milennium Falcon, so it’s nice that a (somewhat) cheaper way to obtain BB-8 is going to be available in this first wave.

There’s also a slot in Poe’s black X-Wing Starfighter that BB-8 can fit comfortably into, so apparently the lovable little ball droid is an Astromech droid! Who knew?

The 75102 Poe’s X-Wing Starfighter set will contain 717 pieces and retail for $79.99. That’s about 11.2 cents per piece, which puts the set over my target value of 10 cents per piece. That said, it’s a Naruto Shippuden-colored black and orange X-Wing. SOLD! Take my money, LEGO.

LEGO 75102 Poe's X-Wing Starfighter Set Revealed Episode VIIThe LEGO Star Wars Episode VII Poe’s X-Wing Starfighter 75102 set will arrive in stores next Friday, September 4th (Force Friday AKA My Birthday). Many stores are opening for a midnight launch for Force Friday, but I think I’m going to just order online and avoid fighting the Star Wars mob that night.

What do you think of the Force Awakens black X-Wing Starfighter, brick lovers? Is this the hottest LEGO X-Wing toy ever released, or do you prefer the classic-colored X-Wing sets instead?

  1. The only thing I’d use is the new alien. The ship is cool as hell, but I use the figures for my RPGs and always need new species.

  2. Like the color, but not thrilled with how they adapted the wing structure. It’s supposed to fold into a single flat wing in the movie, but instead the top flap still sits upon the bottom alot like 9495 except the bottom flap underside is always exposed.
