LEGO The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug Lake-Town Chase Set New Photos!

Though LEGO collectors got their first gander at one of the LEGO The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug sets at San Diego Comic Con 2013 back in July, there hasn’t been so much as a nibble to tide LEGO Tolkien fans over ever since. But the wait is at an end, and while there are no new LEGO The Hobbit Fall 2013 sets to see yet, new photos have leaked of the one set LEGO already showed off at SDCC 2013, including the box art for the LEGO The Hobbit Lake-Town Chase 79013 set!

LEGO The Hobbit Lake-Town Chase 79013 Box 2013 SetsIf there was one big mistake that I feel LEGO made with their 2012 LEGO The Hobbit sets, it’s that they chose such a drab, boring color scheme for the box art. While The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey isn’t exactly a movie filled with thrills every minute, the brown color scheme of the sets’ packaging was so bland that it actually made the LEGO The Hobbit Winter 2012 sets feel like they were more uninteresting than they really were.

Luckily, LEGO has seen the error of their ways and totally redesigned the packaging colors for this year’s LEGO The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug series of LEGO Lord of the Rings sets! Gone are the various hues of boring brown, and in their place are vibrant blue, white, and yellow coloring. It sounds like such a little thing, but when you look at the box art for the Winter 2013 LEGO The Hobbit sets, you can’t help but instantly feel more positive about them than their predecessors. Appealing box art really does make a big difference!

LEGO 79013 Lake-Town Chase The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug Set

We previously saw the 79013 LEGO Lake-Town Chase set during SDCC 2013 in the summer, but Swedish retailer Brixit posted this additional photo of the set. The set itself doesn’t look entirely indispensable to me, but I do really want the included exclusive minifigures of Bard, the Lake Town Guard, and the Master of Lake-Town. This is a scene that I think I’m really going to have to see in the movie before I decide if the location is memorable enough to warrant a set purchase from me, however.

The LEGO The Hobbit Lake Town Chase 79013 set should be available for order online in late fall 2013, and is scheduled to be priced at $49.99 for 334 pieces. I’ll add photos and information about the remaining LEGO The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug sets as more details and information about those sets turn up.
