Star Wars LEGO 2013 Jabba’s Sail Barge 75020 Photos & Preview

Taking a break from discussing the onslaught of LEGO Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones sets, I’m going back to the good ol’ days with a classic set from the Star Wars Original Trilogy: the 2013 LEGO Star Wars Jabba’s Sail Barge 75020! This set will complete the trilogy of newly-released Jabba-themed LEGO Star Wars sets, as they previously released a new LEGO Star Wars Jabba’s Palace in 2012 and the LEGO Star Wars Rancor Pit in early 2013. It’s also looking like this 75020 LEGO Star Wars Jabba’s Sail Barge will be my absolute-favorite LEGO Star Wars 2013 set…

Star Wars LEGO 2013 Jabba's Sail Barge 75020 with MinifiguresThose who have been collecting LEGO Star Wars sets for a long time (and have a good memory!) will remember that this is actually the second time LEGO has produced this vehicle: the 6210 LEGO Jabba’s Sail Barge was previously released in 2006. I’ve seen some new criticism of the 2013 Jabba’s Sail Barge and its pointy front, but that’s actually more authentic to the appearance of Jabba’s Sail Barge in Star Wars Return of the Jedi.

LEGO Star Wars Jabba's Sail Barge Original SetI haven’t seen a side-by-side comparison of the old and new LEGO Jabba’s Sail Barge sets yet, but the new set doesn’t appear to have a significant size difference from the original. The 75020 Jabba’s Sail Barge Star Wars LEGO 2013 set may be slightly smaller, but we’ll need to measure both side-by-side to know for certain. Obviously, though, Jabba’s Sail Barge still isn’t as huge as it is in the actual Star Wars: Return of the Jedi movie!

2013 LEGO Jabba's Sail Barge 75020 Summer Fall SetThe interior of 75020 LEGO Jabba’s Sail Barge isn’t all that exciting–but then again, there’s not all that much exciting stuff going on inside the Sail Barge in the movie, either (I mean, besides Slave Leia choking Jabba the Hutt to death with a big chain). And speaking of Jabba–yes, a LEGO Jabba the Hutt minifigure is included with this set. Since he’s a larger figure that’s probably contributing to the set’s higher price, but I’ll give LEGO a pass, since you sort of have to include a Jabba with Jabba’s Sail Barge.

LEGO Star Wars Jabba's Sail Barge Minifigures 75020 Ree-Yees Max Rebo Jabba the HuttAlong with Jabba you get five other minifigures, including two brand-new characters. The LEGO Slave Leia minifigure is a heartthrob, of course; while the Serving Droid R2-D2 minifigure is always my favorite version of R2-D2 to include in any set.

LEGO Jabba's Sail Barge Full 2013 Set 75020 Minifigures Slave Leia Max Rebo Serving Droid R2-D2LEGO is pricing the LEGO Star Wars 2013 Jabba’s Sail Barge at $119.99 in America. That price seems very high for an 850 piece set (over 14 cents per brick!), but it’s actually a big improvement over last year’s LEGO Jabba’s Palace set, which cost the same $119.99 for just 717 pieces. I still wouldn’t call this set a “deal”, but at least it’s priced a little bit better this time! Max Rebo and Ree-Yees are both brand-new characters to the LEGO Star Wars line, and both look fabulous (though the Max Rebo minifigure is particularly adorable).

Summer 2013 LEGO Star Wars Jabba's Sail Barge Box 75020Though this LEGO Star Wars 2013 set is rather expensive, at least you get a free poster inside, to make up a portion of the cost? The 2013 LEGO Jabba’s Sail Barge 75020 is one of the LEGO Star Wars Summer 2013 sets, and is scheduled to be released in August 2013.
