Summer 2015 LEGO Star Wars General Grievous & Obi-Wan Figures!

There’s still a ban by Disney on what Star Wars The Force Awakens toys can be shown off by merchandisers (re: none), but that’s not going to stop LEGO from revealing some all-new, never-before-seen LEGO Star Wars Summer 2015 sets this week in honor of Star Wars Celebration Anaheim! And the first of this week’s festive reveals are a pair of sets sure to be divisive among fans: the LEGO Star Wars General Grievous and Obi-Wan Kenobi buildable figure sets!

We heard rumors of a line of super-articulated, ball-jointed figures coming to the LEGO Star Wars theme as early as last year, but it wasn’t until the New York Toy Fair 2015 that we got our first look at two of them: Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. The reception for that pair of figures has been rather… lukewarm (to put it nicely), but the first half-dozen Star Wars Constraction figures will be arriving late this summer nonetheless.

I was a tad baffled by the price range of $19.99-$34.99 that was announced for the buildable Star Wars figure line–right up until I found out that a four-armed General Grievous Constraction figure was on the way. I think the mystery has now been solved and we can reasonably deduce just who the $34.99 figure in this series is going to be.

While I was a bit tepid toward the Vader and Luke Skywalker figures shown at Toy Fair, this General Grievous buildable figure absolutely blows me away. This is probably the second-most articulated Grievous figure ever made (after the $250 Sideshow Collectibles sixth scale Grievous released last year), and looks absolutely awesome. Can’t wait for this one!

Meanwhile, the Obi-Wan Kenobi buildable figure is, well… a “little” sillier looking. Obi-Wan Kenobi is obviously the natural character to pair off with General Grievous, but LEGO opted for the Clone Wars era General Obi-Wan Kenobi costume, which isn’t going to be as well-received by purist fans as the Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan would have been. Props to Obi-Wan for being able to pull off the caped look, though–not many Jedi can!

The LEGO Star Wars Battle Figures will be on display at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim from April 16th to April 19th, and are scheduled to be released in September 2015 (the same month as the official release of the Star Wars Force Awakens figures and toys will launch).

The final two sets in the series–the Jango Fett and Commander Cody buildable figures–will be revealed at Star Wars Celebration this week, and I’ll post photos here and to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook Page as soon as those two sets are revealed.

What do you think of the two newest LEGO Star Wars Constraction set figures to be revealed, Star Wars fans? Is the Force with these super-articulated Bionicle-like Star Wars figures, or will you be passing on the most poseable LEGO Obi-Wan Kenobi and General Grievous figures ever made?

  1. Im sooo hyped!!!! General Grievous is the best character that will benifit from this big figure with all the articulation!!!!

  2. Cool new shell pieces, and it looks like Grievous’ arms are designed to join together, which is pretty cool. I thought he’d have a cape, though.

  3. the general grevious figure looks amazing
lego did an amazing job designing that one
