I have a confession to make: as slow as I am at building actual LEGO sets (it takes me well over 5 hours to build a 500 piece set), I’m orders of magnitude slower at playing through video games! How slow, you ask…? Well, let’s just say that I’ve still never completed the LEGO Marvel or Harry Potter Year 1-4 video games, much less opened LEGO Batman 3 or Dimensions. So even though I spent over $200 on LEGO Dimensions video game toys this week, I still had no clue how the game actually was.

After the calamity that occurred last year for kids and collectors trying to collect the first wave of Nintendo Amiibo figures, I was really afraid of huge shortages for the LEGO Dimensions launch.
And so, even though I ordered all my LEGO Dimensions sets online, I went to see how well-stocked (or not) my closest video game retailers were this morning. And as it turns out, the answer is “pretty well-stocked”!

LEGO Dimensions is getting ready to shatter the sales records of all previously-released LEGO video games, as the game has already lined up a ton of blockbuster licenses to include, such as Back to the Future, DC, Portal, Doctor Who, The Simpsons, Jurassic World, Lord of the Rings, Scooby-Doo, Ninjago, Chima and more! But at the Gamescon event in Germany yesterday, a license and sets that are destined to be among the very most popular were announced: LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters sets, including a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man minifigure and a Slimer minifigure are now up for order!

As far as the hype-o-meter goes, the licenses that are all-new to LEGO Dimensions (such as Wizard of Oz and Portal 2) are definitely blowing the roof off the meter. But there are some other new-for-2015 themes also getting the video game expansion pack treatment, and two of them were just revealed this weekend! When the blurry images of the complete lineup of LEGO Dimensions Series 1 minifigures and packs leaked out, the one rumored inclusion that really made me raise an eyebrow was the LEGO Portal set.
I was genuinely skeptical that a licensed LEGO Dimensions Portal pack was real–but as it turns out, it is!

It was less than a month ago that I was in mourning for the LEGO Lord of the Rings theme, as I lamented the release of what was expected to be the final two Lord of the Rings minifigures: the Bard and Bain figures included with the Target exclusive Hobbit Battle of Five Armies Blu-Ray release. But things have unexpectedly changed since last month in a big way with the announcement of the dimension-hopping LEGO Dimensions video game. And as part of the first wave of expansion packs, Lord of the Rings returns: it’s the LEGO Dimensions Gollum, Gimli and Legolas sets!

Of the six themes brought together for the first wave of LEGO Dimensions sets, there’s only one that hasn’t had its own theatrical movie released to its name: Ninjago. It’s been a pretty slow news month thus far, but it turns out that it was just the calm before the storm!
