Disney Princesses and race cars and ninjas are awesome and all, but now it’s time to start talking about the 2015 entries for one of my absolute favorite LEGO themes–the LEGO Legends of Chima 2015 sets have now been revealed! The leaked list of LEGO Chima 2015 sets posted last month was right on the money–there’s no sets at all coming that we didn’t know about. But while we’d heard of all the new sets already, that’s nothing compared to seeing them! Case in point: the 2015 LEGO Chima Flinx’s Ultimate Phoenix 70221!

You know the stereotype in movies where a young man will see a hot red sports car and instantly fall hopelessly in love? Yeah–that’s how I feel about the 70221 LEGO Flinx’s Ultimate Phoenix Winter 2015 Chima set. Seriously.

LEGO 70221 Flinx’s Ultimate Phoenix may only be 172 pieces, but it is 172 pieces of pure beauty. The vibrant color scheme, the fiery gradient on the wings, the amazingly cool flaming eyes… let’s face it: I’m in love, and I feel no shame.

As if the Flinx’s Ultimate Phoenix LEGO set wasn’t visually cool enough as it was, it also has an action feature where the translucent, multicolored wings of the phoenix fully spread out and go into attack mode! If LEGO has released a more compelling $19.99 set than this in recent times, I sure can’t remember it!

The only downside to this set is that it doesn’t include any unique minifigures. Both the Vulture Tribe LEGO Voom Voom minifigure and the Phoenix Tribe LEGO Flinx minifigure have been previously available.

Even so, not everyone could afford the beautiful (yet expensive) LEGO Flying Phoenix Fire Temple 70146 set that Flinx was previously exclusive to, so it’s nice to see the Flinx LEGO figure return in a set that’s a little bit more reasonably priced for kids to save up for.

The LEGO Legends of Chima Flinx’s Ultimate Phoenix 70221 set is part of the Winter 2015 LEGO Chima sets wave that’s scheduled to be released officially in January 2015. That said, LEGO Flinx’s Ultimate Phoenix is going to be one of the sets that I’m staking out Toys R Us and the LEGO Store for during December, because I am totally twitterpated with this set.
