LEGO has had an escalating issue with confidential news and photos leaking out early over the past year, and as a result there have been precious few surprises thus far in 2015. I actually prefer that there not be leaks so that we can be shocked with new and exciting news throughout the year–but alas. Even so, while we knew a new for 2015 LEGO Ferris Wheel set was on the way since December, we haven’t had an opportunity to see the set–until now!

Those who have been collecting for many years probably remember the original Power Function Ferris Wheel 4957 from 2007. That set , which contained 1,063 pieces and retailed for $69.99, has become a bit legendary. As a result, its value has skyrocketed and made the set out of reach for many fans.

But wait–! Like Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, a new hope has arisen! An all-new and improved 10247 LEGO Creator Ferris Wherel set has appeared!

As of now, this scan from the June 2015 LEGO Store Calendar is our sole look at the 2015 Ferris Wheel set. But while this is nowhere near a hi-res image, we can definitely already tell that this Ferris Wheel is going to contain far more detail and way more pieces than its predecessor.

We won’t know the official price or piece-count of the 10247 Ferris Wheel LEGO set until the official designer video and press release come out (which will almost certainly be within the next week), but I’ve seen enough to know that this set is a must-buy for me.

Here’s a few of my observations on the 2015 Ferris Wheel, as compared to the 2007 Ferris Wheel:

• The grey frame on the new Ferris Wheel looks much more natural and far less toy-like than the dark blue frame on the 4957 Ferris Wheel.
• At least 10 minifigures are visible in the image and will be included in the set, as opposed to the original LEGO Ferris Wheel 2007 set, which contained zero minifigures.
• The loading area and multi-colored gondolas (green, purple and yellow!) on the new Ferris Wheel are a monumental improvement over the previous release, where all of the gondolas were yellow and far less detailed.
• The LEGO 2015 Ferris Wheel has a full dozen gondolas–the precious 2007 Ferris Wheel only had eight. That’s 50% more!
• The yellow/orange gradient spokes on the interior of the Ferris Wheel build look awesome!

The LEGO Creator Ferris Wheel 10247 set is scheduled to be officially released exclusively online and in the LEGO Stores on June 1st, 2015. However. VIP Members will (but of course!) get first dibs on the 10247 Ferris Wheel during the VIP Early Access period during the second half of May 2015! I can absolutely foresee this being among the most popular summer 2015 sets, so be prepared for early sell-outs and back orders on the Ferris Wheel.
