The LEGO Movie Everything is Awesome Edition Pre-Order Details

When the first word leaked out earlier this month regarding The LEGO Movie: Everything is Awesome Edition Blu Ray/DVD set with exclusive Prologue Vitruvius minifigure, I was immediately skeptical of the notion that the set would be exclusive to any one retailer (even one as prominent as Walmart). Turns out I was right, as over the weekend Amazon has opened pre-orders for the LEGO Movie Everything is Awesome Edition set and revealed all the details about the set…

The LEGO Movie Everything is Awesome Edition 3D Blu Ray DVD Set

When Walmart was the first retailer to lost the LEGO Movie Everything is Awesome Edition DVD/Blu Ray set for sale, some people assumed that meant that that edition would be a Walmart exclusive. I doubted that would be the case, and my skepticism was validated this weekend when Amazon confirmed that they would also be carrying the deluxe LEGO Movie set.

As previously reported, this set will exclusively include a LEGO Prologue Vitruvius minifigure from the beginning of The LEGO Movie. As this is a significant variant of Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman) with different clothes (and non-blind eyes!), the figure is a must-have for my LEGO Movie minifigures collection.

LEGO Movie Exclusive Vitruvius Minifigure from Everything is Awesome EditionIn addition to the exclusive Vitruvius figure, the Everything is Awesome LEGO Movie set will also include a “collectible 3D Emmet photo”. Um, that’s… Sort of weird. I don’t see how you can have a “collectible” photo when there are no others planned or released, but it is what it is. I suppose the Emmet 3D photo will at least look neat in front of the LEGO Movie in the package.

The LEGO Movie DVD Cover and Collectible 3D Emmet Card

The actual LEGO Movie DVD cover is quite exciting and colorful, depicting Emmet and Wyldstyle riding the LEGO Super Cycle “through the cover of the DVD”.

I am really quite miffed about the fact that Warner Bros. is forcing any LEGO fan wanting the “best” edition of The LEGO Movie with the exclusive Vitruvius minifigure to purchase a set with a $60 MSRP and a 3D Blu Ray copy included.

As badly as Warner Bros might want people to invest in 3D TVs, they’re nowhere near ubiquitous. I don’t have any friends or family members who own a 3-D TV (or have even considered buying one), and I’m not at all thrilled about being railroaded into paying for a 3D copy of The LEGO Movie just to get the exclusive Vitruvius figure.

The LEGO Movie Everything is Awesome Edition Blu Ray DVD Set with Exclusive Vitruvius MinifigureThe LEGO Movie Everything is Awesome Edition is now available for pre-order with an expected release date of 8/12/2014. I recommend purchasing from Amazon, as their lowest-price pre-order guarantee has saved me quite a few bucks over the years (if the price goes down before release on an item you’ve pre-ordered, Amazon automatically lowers the price you’re charged, regardless of the price you pre-ordered at). No other retailer that I know of does that.

Now that we have the complete details of the LEGO Movie Everything is Awesome Edition including its price and contents, what do you think, LEGO fans? Will you be getting the “most awesome” edition of The LEGO Movie, or opting for a cheaper DVD or Blu Ray only release?

The LEGO Movie Everything is Awesome Edition Pre-Order Details — 6 Comments

  1. In my Country it’ll probably take a while as it’s not even in theaters here yet (10th April is the start in my place, I get a preview on the 6th) so I bet any BluRay will take even longer to get over here, but oh well.

  2. I had pre-ordered this, then got a notice from Amazon that order was cancelled, but I should consider the package you list above. And the price jumped, as you said, to near $40 US. I haven’t reordered because that is just SO.MUCH.MONEY for a DVD, even with the minifig. Still pondering this one but as you say, don’t want to be railroaded into overpaying for something to get one minifig.

  3. Mini-fig looks great, I don’t mind the Emmet sculpture (probably chuck it), I don’t even mind being “forced” to buy a 3-D version of the flick (I’ll probably get a 3D TV at some point; it’ll be nice to have something besides Wreck-It Ralph to try it on).

What does bug me is this UltraViolet BS that Warner keeps trying to push down our throats. Does anyone actually use that? I want a digital copy I can still watch in Airplane Mode, not some streaming-only thing.

    • You know that ultra violet can be put on itunes and be viewed on apple devices without internet.

  4. As an owner of a 3DTV, I’m glad to see Lego Movie is GETTING a 3D release on home video- I’ve seen a number of great 3D movies skip home media.
