LEGO Ninjago Thunder Raider Winter 2014 Set 70723 Revealed & Photos

The third and final one of the Winter 2014 LEGO Ninjago sets to have photos leaked out today is the LEGO Ninjago Thunder Raider 70723! The largest and most expensive of the first trio of LEGO Ninjago 2014 sets to be revealed, the 70723 Thunder Raider set brings us updated versions of not one, but two of our favorite Ninjago ninjas! Black Ninja Cole and Blue Ninja Jay are back in action, and they’ve brought impressive new vehicles with them!

Though it doesn’t appear that the ever-popular Ninjago Dragons will be returning in 2014, we will be seeing some upgraded versions of the types of vehicles and mechs previously released in the LEGO Ninjago theme. Jay’s off-road Thunder Raider LEGO Thunder Raider vehicle looks very reminiscent of previous Ninjago offerings, while Cole’s Earth Mech will be a great complement to the Kai’s Fire Mech LEGO set that was available this year.

Apparently the Thunder Raider and the Earth Mech can connect to each other in order to activate “Speed Mode”, but the exact details of what that entails are likely to go unrevealed until we know more specifics about the LEGO Ninjago 2014 cartoon and its plot.

70723 LEGO Ninjago 2014 Thunder Raider Set70723 LEGO Thunder Raider will include three minifigures: a Black Ninja Cole minifigure, a Blue Ninja Jay minifigure, and a generic Nindroid minifigure. Man, I really don’t like this poor Nindroid’s chances against both Jay’s Thunder Raider and Cole’s Earth Mech! Even with the Nindroid packing a double barreled laser cannon, it really does seem to be a bit of a mismatch, doesn’t it?

With this release, we’ll have seen four of the five main Ninjago ninjas released in Ninjago 2014 LEGO sets. Presumably, the next time we see new Ninjago sets revealed, we should see the updated, maskless White Ninja Zane minifigure as well.

The Winter 2014 LEGO Ninjago Thunder Raider set contains 334 pieces and looks to me like it should retail for $39.99 (although I’d prefer $34.99, honestly). The set will be released by January 2014, and should be available at all major retail store chains.
