LEGO Star Wars 2014 Microfighters Sets Series 1 Photos Revealed!

I was pretty both happy and sad last week when the news broke that the LEGO Star Wars Planet Series had been canceled. I was sad because I thought the line still had some potential, but I was happy because its demise would lead to a new series of LEGO Star Wars Vehicle minis in 2014. The first photos of the 2014 LEGO Star Wars Microfighters have leaked to the internet, and now, well… now I am sad once again…

UPDATE: Photos of these sets have been removed at the request of LEGO, although the sites can still be found easily from other sites via search engines. I’ll leave up my impressions of the sets, however.

When I posted the lineup of new sets for the LEGO Star Wars 2014 Microfighters Series 1 sets last week, I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the series. I had hoped that the series was going to be a low-priced line of $10-$20 sets that would bring in new collectors–a sort of “better-than-polybags” series of LEGO Star Wars vehicles. Now that photos of all six of the Series 1 LEGO Star Wars Micro Fighters sets have leaked, though… it’s pretty clear that that’s not the case at all.

To recap, the six sets included in this initial series of LEGO Star Wars Micro Fighters are:

LEGO 75028 Clone Turbo Tank with Blue Episode III Clone Trooper Minifigure
LEGO 75029 AAT with Pilot Battle Droid Minifigure
LEGO 75030 Millennium Falcon with Han Solo Minifigure
LEGO 75031 TIE Interceptor with Imperial TIE Pilot Minifigure
LEGO 75032 X-Wing Fighter with X-Wing Pilot Minifigure
LEGO 75033 Imperial Star Destroyer with Imperial Crew Minifigure

To say that these sets are a disappointment is an understatement. There are zero exclusive minifigures, and all six vehicles look downright ridiculous. There’s nothing wrong with developing kid-oriented sets, but these sets are just silly. I was hoping for smaller-scale models, but instead these are little fat-looking “chibi” LEGO Star Wars sets. Han Solo riding on top of the Millennium Falcon? An Imperial Star Destroyer that’s barely longer than the minifigure riding in it? Yipes! I will definitely be passing on all these sets unless they look significantly better in-person or when hi-resolution photos of each set come available.

I’ll update with better photos of the six LEGO Star Wars 2014 Micro Fighters Series 1 sets once they’re released. What do you think of these sets, LEGO fans? Are these the miniature LEGO Star Wars vehicles that you’re looking for, or do these sets have a bad motivator?

  1. I will be fixing up that Star Destroyer for sure… As for the others, I’m not sure they are worth it…

  2. I dunno,I kinda like the Turbo Tank and X-Wing ones.

The planets were still better though. Which I could have afforded to buy more of them.

  3. Ha! These things are hilarious. I would totally buy the x-wing and millenium falcon.
This is wave 1. Exclusives to come. They won’t blow their load on an exclusive first up if they dont have faith in the line. When the line is successful they will start beefing it out.
These are epic. I will be purchasing.

  4. Can someone let me know if the new episode three clones in the winter line up are going to be using the old ep. 3 helmets or the new “clone wars” phase two helmets?

  5. I’m only buying these for the exclusive figs as I did with the planet series. Having said that, I’m extremely unhappy with their choice of Han figure! I could have made that one myself! Plus, the shirt is not even his ANH shirt. Way to cut corners, Lego! We need and Endor Han with the camo trench coat!
