As we approach the second quarter of 2013, LEGO Star Wars fans have been abuzz with discussions over just who (or what) would be the annual LEGO Star Wars May the 4th exclusive promotional minifigure. After last year’s highly-prized chrome silver TC-14 minifigure, fans had they hopes pretty high. Maybe too high. We now know what’s the special Star Wars May 4th promo minifigure will be. It’s a brown coat Hoth Han Solo minifigure… with a new hat…

LEGO will be giving away this exclusive Hoth Han Solo in brown coat minifigure with a qualifying LEGO Star Wars purchase on or around May 4 2013. The exclusive brown Hoth Han Solo minifigure will have a new facial expression and also a new removable fuzzy, hooded hat.

One of the great Star Wars decades-long debates is whether Han Solo’s coat was blue or brown on Hoth. The fight over the color of the coat Han Solo wears on Hoth has been so long-standing that Hasbro even made fun of it in their marketing campaign a few years back. Now both sides of the argument can finally have a Hoth Han Solo to match their standpoint!

As far as incentive figures go, this particular LEGO Star Wars promo feels a little “blah”. We’ve had numerous Hoth Han Solo minifigures over the years (all of which in blue coats), and while this one does have some new characteristics, he still feels like a pretty big rehash. I like the new hood a lot, but not necessarily enough to make a $75 or more purchase to get this brown coat Han Solo Hoth minifigure “free”.

Personally, I would have rather had more chrome droids, some clones we haven’t seen before in minifigure form, or pretty much anything else before this Hoth Han Solo minifigure. It’s not even an anniversary year for The Empire Strikes Back, so it just seems weird to have the coveted May the 4th exclusive minifigure be a character from the Battle of Hoth.

In the past there have been other May the 4th LEGO exclusives such as LEGO Star Wars minifigure posters, but it’s not known if LEGO will offer any giveaways like that this year in addition to the Hoth Han Solo minifigure. If you’re excited for this somewhat-new Han Solo Hoth minifigure, you won’t have long to wait–he’ll be available through the online LEGO Store (and local official LEGO Stores) on May 4th.
