NYCC 2015: LEGO Booth Photos! LEGO Nexo Knights Sets!

When we got to the week of New York Comic Con 2015 and LEGO still hadn’t announced any of their plans for the NYCC LEGO Booth, I had my suspicions that they were planning to spotlight an upcoming LEGO 2016 theme (as they did with Bionicle last year). And as it turns out, those feelings proved true! I got to take two-dozen firsthand today of the 2016 LEGO Nexo Knights sets revealed at NYCC 2015!

I’ve been in and out of the ER this week and I’m feeling pretty awful after having spent the day fighting the masses at the Javits Center to get the best quality photos that I could for my blogs, so I hope you won’t mind if I leave you a quick two-dozen photos of the Nexo Knights LEGO theme (down below) with a minimum of my commentary this time.

This “Nexo Knights” weird space-meets-medieval theme strikes me as being more than a little bit bizarre, but I was very encouraged by the almost universally positive things I heard con-goers had to say about the two Nexo Knights sets that LEGO unveiled today for New York Comic-Con 2015! I genuinely thought that casual attendees at NYCC were going to trash this theme verbally, but it turned out that both kids and adults that I saw approach the booth were calling it descriptors such as “really cool” and “neat”.

Personally, I’m not in love with this theme yet (besides the supreme villain character of Jestro the Evil Jester, who will clearly go down in history as one of the greatest antagonists ever conceived). That said, there’s nothing that really turns me off about the Nexo Knights toys either, so a good cartoon series can definitely win me over to this theme’s side.

The real question, of course, is whether or not this new theme will actually sell. Will kids or AFOLs really want to shell out 60 bucks for 70316 Jestro’s Evil Mobile, which is basically just a big rolling throne pulled by a rock monster…? I feel kind of dubious about that, and about the long-term viability of this theme period.

Even the $100 futuristic fortress (Nexo Knights Fortrex 70317) I’m not saying that Nexo Knights is going to be a flop–but if the cartoon isn’t a major success, I think the theme is going to be in a lot of trouble.

Also, it was a real let-down that TLG brought absolutely no toy exclusives to New York Comic Con 2015 for east-coast collectors. San Diego Comic-Con attendees get at least seven exclusives figures/sets each year, and New Yorkers get zippo despite NYCC now being as big as (if not bigger than) SDCC…? Lame.

Anyway, that’s enough hazy, sick-person ramblings from me. On with the pictures of the castle-themed NYCC 2015 LEGO Nexo Knights-themed booth display!

Based off of our first official glances, how are you feeling about this fresh new mash-up between the Space and Castle themes, brick fans? Are the Nexo Knights high on your list for 2016, or are the futuristic defenders (and their wacky foes) just not for you?
